Why Orange County Homeowners Choose Solar
Orange County combines excellent year-round sunshine with some of the highest electricity rates in California, making it one of the best regions in the state for residential solar. With over 280 sunny days annually and SCE rates that continue to climb, OC homeowners who install solar typically see payback periods of 5–7 years and significant long-term savings. The federal 30% Investment Tax Credit (ITC) further improves the financial case for going solar in 2025 and beyond.
Coastal vs. Inland Orange County
Orange County stretches from the Pacific coast to inland hills, and solar considerations differ by location. Coastal communities like Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and San Clemente experience morning marine layer that typically clears by mid-morning, with ocean breezes that keep panels cool and efficient in the afternoon. Inland cities like Anaheim, Irvine, and Yorba Linda see more intense heat, which can slightly reduce panel efficiency but is offset by longer direct sun exposure. We design systems optimized for your specific microclimate.
HOAs and Solar Rights in Orange County
Orange County has one of the highest concentrations of HOA-governed communities in California. Under the California Solar Rights Act (AB 2188), HOAs cannot prohibit solar panel installation or impose conditions that significantly increase cost or decrease system efficiency. However, many OC communities still require architectural review. We prepare professional HOA documentation — including system layouts, equipment specifications, and visual renderings — to help your approval go smoothly. We've worked with HOAs across Irvine, Newport Coast, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, and dozens of other OC communities.
NEM 3.0 and Battery Storage
Most of Orange County is served by Southern California Edison (SCE) under NEM 3.0, while Anaheim has its own municipal utility (APU) with separate solar programs. Under NEM 3.0, pairing solar with battery storage is essential for maximizing savings — batteries let you store daytime solar energy for use during expensive evening peak hours (4–9 PM) rather than exporting at reduced rates. We install Enphase IQ Battery and Franklin WH systems sized to your home's energy profile and backup needs.
